I Do Crazy Stuff

So, let’s face it, I am turning 30 this summer whether I like it or not ;) And as a way to keep my self preoccupied and not thinking about all the things that I should have done by now, I created a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30. I am currently working on that list and have even crossed some things off the list! BUT I came up with another crazy idea that I thought would be fun to spend my 29th year.

I want to run 30 races before my 30th birthday! Crazy much? Here’s the thing– Running has impacted my life in so many ways and I honestly have so much fun participating in races. Yes, this comes just days after my moaning session on marathon training. These races will be short; 5ks, 10ks, and a couple of half marathons. Plus the full that I am dreading! ;)

this is me, for sure

this is me, for sure

I ran my first race (a 10k) about a month after my 29th birthday in August and I have run 7 more races since then at various distances– So that means just 22 more to go!

I’ve compiled a list of races that I have completed and the ones that I am considering. I will put a tab up so you can follow along with the races that I do–Some of them I have already registered for–Louisiana Half (this weekend!), Austin Full, Nashville Half, but the shorter ones are up in the air. The list will change as other races pop up or around my schedule. My birthday is August 8th and I really want to run the Rock N Roll half in Dublin as my 30th race (It’s August 5th!) How epic would that be!?

Anyways, that’s my fun new idea–looks like I’m going to be busy this year!

Do you like races?

Are you competitive when you run?

I am only against myself (and that’s only sometimes) I’m a slow runner. Very slow. But I love the energy at races so much!

  1. I LOVE races! And I LOVE your idea. 22 races in just 7 months is intense. Good luck! I am also very competitive when I run. I just can’t help it. I am always trying to pass the next person ahead of me.

It’s going to be very intense but fun! I hope! ;)

30 races before turning 30 is a fantastic idea. You’re going to be racing pretty much every weekend! Have fun.

    1. Amanda says:

Thank you! I think it will be a great experience(s)!

  3. Great goal of 30 races before 30! I am very competitive when I run, mostly with myself. However, the last two miles of any race (I ran my first marathon in October) or going up hills always kick the competition in high gear. I focus on one runner at a time and try to “pick them off” by passing them. It’s a great motivator!

    1. Amanda says:

I agree! I ran my first half marathon in November and the last couple of miles I focused in on certain people until I passed them. It’s a great way to end a race! :)

    Hi Amanda,

Ooh ambitious girl! We’re pretty close in age and I LOVE the idea of a 30 before 30 list. I do not have the skill to be too competitive with my running. I’m more of a turtle than a hare but I admire those who breeze past me :)

  5. Amanda says:

Oh, I’m definitely more of a turtle, too. I have more fun at races when I’m running at a relaxed pace. I’m not going to come close to winning, anyway–might as well enjoy myself! ;)

  6. I love races but I don’t love paying for them! I think they are great motivators and challenge you to do your best. I am super competitive so I create mini races in my head against those next to me in the actual event :)

    1. Amanda says:

Yes! Paying for them is the worst! The bulk of the races I’m going to do will be smaller 5ks for that reason alone! :)

  7. Yes I am super competitive. I tell myself I won’t be and then I get a little crazy trying to pass people haha ;-)

  8. Hi Amanda! Wanted to let you know I nominated you for a Liebster Award. It’s a fun way to connect with other up-and-coming bloggers. Check it out at my blog: http://totalmamamakeover.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/liebster-award/

  9. You have to do Dublin! I went a couple of years ago – it was a BLAST!
